Nelson, BC – The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) has recognized Nelson as one of the world’s top Intelligent Communities with a population under 50,000.
Nelson ranked No. 5 of 10 communities identified, and 100s of communities considered, by ICF in their new Future by Numbers rankings of Intelligent Communities. The rankings are based on ICF’s global data set using information provided by communities that had previously applied to become Intelligent Communities.
The ICF recognized Nelson in its 2017 Smart21 Cities ranking. Since then, Nelson and Area Economic Development Partnership (NAEDP) has been working on projects to help move Nelson up the rankings, with the goal of making it into ICF’s Top 7 list by 2020. Intelligent Community are judged based on their broadband deployment and use, workforce development, innovation, digital inclusion and advocacy.

The NAEDP is a partnership between the City of Nelson, Community Futures Central Kootenay, the Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce and RDCK Areas E and F. The partnership’s goal is to take a unified approach to community economic development initiatives for the city and region.
