Community Futures launches KootenayShipping.com
Kootenay businesses needing to ship their products now have a new way to compare available shipping options and connect with other businesses to share shipping costs, using the Kootenay Shipping website and Facebook Group.
Developed by Community Futures Central Kootenay (CFCK) and the Applied Research and Innovation Centre at Selkirk College, KootenayShipping.com aims to simplify the process of finding a suitable shipper in our region. From basic parcel shipping to freight and cold chain services, the website allows businesses to find and compare shipping services.
“As businesses have increased their e-commerce sales during the pandemic, many retailers are now having to navigate the complex world of shipping logistics,” said CFCK Executive Director Andrea Wilkey. “Kootenay Shipping will help businesses find and compare available shipping options and find the best one to suit their needs.”
As a companion to the website, CFCK also started the Facebook Group “Kootenay Shipping” for local business owners to talk about their shipping needs and find opportunities to support each other. For example, if a business in the East Kootenay is making weekly deliveries to West Kootenay communities and driving back an empty truck, they could potentially connect with other businesses and take their products back with them.
“Sometimes simply delivering a product is more practical than shipping it,” said Wilkey. “The Facebook Group allows businesses to share their delivery schedule and/or their availability to pickup products for other businesses. It’s like Rideshare but for packages.”
