Sergio Raffo and Kiara Lynch are the team behind this innovative company in Kaslo BC. Ceramica House fuses art with utility by custom designing, manufacturing and installing architectural ceramic pieces into homes and gardens.
Sergio and Kiara met in 2002 at an international ceramic workshop at the Instituto Superior de Arte, University of Havana Cuba where Sergio was a professor and Kiara was continuing her Fine Arts Studies. They quickly began discussing the possibilities of applying ceramics to architecture and in 2005 they returned to the Kootenays where Kiara was brought up to begin their venture and opened the business in 2007 at 311 D Avenue in Kaslo.
They use local clay and minerals to make their ceramic material which is non-toxic, natural and biodegradable. It is also rust, scratch and fire proof and resistant to chemical products. Ceramic is versatile due to its plasticity and allows Sergio and Kiara to make functional elements like fireplace surrounds, countertops, door & window frames, wall & floor mosaics, basins and fountains. Each project is completely unique and is made using the client’s vision and aesthetic preference.
