After taking a welding course at Selkirk College, Nakusp’s Kate Tupper spent four years plying her trade working on heavy machinery. Her artistic side was calling out though, and she has made the successful switch.
In 2006, the dream of Spark Tart became a reality. Inspired by a big imagination, Tupper creates from the heart beautiful original metal works that are functional, stylish and full of flair. From candle holders to furniture that re-contextualize prominent historic themes, each piece has a name and quite often she names a piece before it is created. “The words will paint a picture, story, or emotion which I translate into sculpture.” she says. Tupper likes to present words as a tangible item for the viewer to see.
Tupper keeps herself busy producing pieces for festivals, art exhibitions and individual orders. Her goal is to keep enjoying her passion and become ever more so recognized.
