The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot was a community-led immigration pilot designed to bring skilled permanent residents to the West Kootenay. It aimed to spread the economic benefits of immigration to communities outside of large metropolitan centres.
Community Futures recognizes that employers in our region have jobs they were unable to fill locally. The Immigration Pilot makes it easier for them to hire and retain skilled foreign workers in these positions. Through the pilot, we help newcomers who want to work and live long term in the West Kootenay to gain Permanent Residency in Canada for themselves and their families.
The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a four year pilot project, developed and funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. It is currently available in 11 communities in Canada. The pilot ended in July 2024.
