About the Board of Directors
Community Futures Central Kootenay is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We currently have nine directors serving on our board:
- Alecia Neville – Kaslo
- Am Naqvi – Nelson
- Andrew Kyle – Nelson
- Beth Campbell – Slocan Valley
- Bob Wright – Nelson
- Chris Bell – Castlegar
- Robert Bleier – Castlegar
- Terry Bambrick – Creston
- Tyler Rice – Salmo
Board members must have entrepreneurial experience or work in a field that serves small businesses (ex. finance, legal, HR). They should be engaged and connected in their community and aware of their community’s values.
Ideally, the Board will have directors from all communities across the Central Kootenay region. We want to our Board to have gender balance, and diversity in age and ethnicity. We welcome applications from people with disability, health conditions and neurodiversity.
Some of the skill sets we are looking for include:
- legal expertise;
- human resources expertise;
- youth engagement;
- social enterprise knowledge;
- community economic development expertise; and
- succession planning.
The Board of Directors usually meets six times a year on Tuesday evenings, in Nelson. Meetings may also be attended virtually. There are no meetings in July or August.
About the Committees
Community Futures Central Kootenay has two committees that support programs. The Loans Committee provides oversight to the Business Loans Program. The Self-Employment Committee provides oversight to the Self Employment Program.
The desired skills and criteria for serving on a committee is the same as for the Board of Directors. However, it requires a lesser time commitment. Committees only meet a few times per year, usually virtually. If you’d like to volunteer with CFCK but don’t have capacity to be on the Board of Directors, we welcome you to apply to join a committee.
